Danganronpa × Shattered Excellence (ダンガンロンパ × シャッタードエクセレンス Danganronpa x Shattādoekuserensu) is a fictional story created and written by bleak moonlight, taking place in the same timeline as the previous arcs of Hope's Peak Academy and Gifted Juveniles. However, this tale takes place in a different location in a fictional Japan, taking inspiration from Kyoto specifically.
The story focuses on fifteen high school students in the newly Reformed Hope's Peak Academy's Class of Excellence who are forced unwillingly to participate in a 'killing game', where they must kill or be killed in order to survive and escape the school alive. The game is hosted by a robotic bear creature named 'Monokuma', the self-titled 'Headmaster' of The Reformed Killing Game of Excellent Students. These high school students must protect themselves from death from their fellow classmates, and also solve the murders of the fallen or be executed by the headmaster himself.
Following previous games, the main theme of the story is "The Beginning vs. The End", with more underlying themes becoming relevant at different stages of the story.

Humankind has evolved from the times where 'The Biggest, Most Awful, Most Tragic Event in Human History' and 'The Killing School Trip' sent the masses into panic and anarchy. A century has passed since these events, and the world has managed to build itself back to a stable environment. For some unknown purpose, Hope's Peak Academy was reformed and opened once again as a high school, however this time, allowed regular students to academically enrol. Each year, a special class would be formed among the final years called the "Class of Excellence", which allowed the students to explore their Ultimate talents more specifically against traditional uses of study.
This year marks the tenth anniversary of the Excellence Programme, with a new class of fifteen being selected for the year. However, unfortunately, after the first week of the 10th Class of Excellence, the Danganronpa game was reformed and kicked off with another class of ultimate students unknown to the rest of the world. It is time to discover whether the game of Danganronpa will remain the same, or reform like everything else around it.
